Approach & Training
My Therapeutic Approach
My approach to therapy is curious, client-led, experiential, collaborative and mindful. As we explore your thoughts, feelings, and physical experiences together, I’ll bring a spacious and candid presence. We’ll likely laugh together; at this absurd world and the ridiculousness of being human.
I work from an intersectional perspective, considering your various identities and how they intersect to shape your unique experience in the world. I see you as a whole person, influenced by the systems and environments around you.
Our conversations might challenge how you see things. While this can feel uncomfortable at times, I've found it's often where some of the most meaningful growth happens. Think of it as exploring uncharted territory within yourself – exciting, a little scary, but full of opportunity.
Theoretical Foundations
My practice is rooted in relational, experiential, and person-centered principles. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities, including:
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which helps us understand and work with your emotions and deep attachment needs in relationships.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps us respond flexibly to difficult thoughts and feelings, and identify what truly matters to you.
Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps us explore and make room for the different parts of self.
Attachment Theory, which helps us understand how our earliest relationships, often with caregivers, shape the way we connect, trust, and feel secure in relationships throughout our lives.
Polyvagal Theory, which helps us understand how our nervous system reacts to stress and safety, which can affect our feelings, behaviors, and relationships.
These approaches provide pathways to explore how your inner world and relational patterns are interconnected with larger ecological and social systems. Together, they leave space for the whole person and all of your parts.
While these tools help foster insight and lasting change, I also deeply value the simple yet transformative power of the therapeutic relationship itself.
Couples Therapy
For couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) to foster secure, connected relationships. These approaches honor the mind-body connection and go beyond reductive, quick fixes. Through these modalities, we will create space for your relationship to surprise, transform, and deepen in ways that honor your shared journey.
Education & Training
I am a Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (License # LH61296609). I earned my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Seattle University, where my training emphasized social justice, advocacy, substance use, and multicultural counseling.
My clinical internship was at MEND Institute, an organization committed to anti-oppressive and liberatory counseling. While at MEND, I completed a curriculum focused on critical social theory, which explored how systems of power, privilege, and oppression intersect with counseling work. This experience deepened my commitment to integrating intersectional feminism and social justice into my approach to therapy.
